Cultivating Minds through Health Education


Education is the ladder to success. It includes both the process of learning and the manner of teaching. The word also implies the proper conduct, cultivation of skills, and moral development of a person. But can education give us the kind of life we are seeking for? Can education give us all the things that we wanted? How powerful education is?

People need education for him to be responsible enough. Education opens up the door of development and the windows of opportunity for us to show up ourselves in the society. Education may take different forms. It can be verbal or in the form of actions. It can be obtain by enrolling ourselves in universities, academies, state colleges or in simpler word, school. These educational institutions teach, nurture, and develop the skills of every student. This is the place where a responsible citizen of his country is molded.

Education, in general, is a very broad topic to discuss that is why we really need to divide it into pieces for us to understand about what education really is. Aside from this, it is useful for it transformed an uncivilized man into a modern one, it is also a way to change man‘s life. Health education for example is a form of education by which individuals or groups of people learned to behave in a manner that contributes to the maintenance and promotion of good health. It also helps the individual to develop sense of responsibility for it requires self-discipline in personal hygiene. We have a saying that behind a productive man is a healthy mind, body, and soul.

Health education, as part of General Education, is a thing not to be set aside. It is indeed a great way in uplifting our standard lifestyles and transforming ourselves into a more responsible and mature citizens. It not only teaches prevention and basic health knowledge but also conditions ideas that will re-shape everyday habits of people. Yes, it only focuses on health aspects but then health is wealth. Education added by health is a very powerful weapon for it does not hurt anyone, but it can kill
illiteracy that is one of the reasons of man’s downfall.

There is a saying from John Dewey, an American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer, that education is not a preparation for life, it is life itself. From this, we can get the idea that if we have education, we know life. If we know life we know everything.
